NB NEWS UPDATE ! First Time In Bengali Entertainment"Jhalagan Palagan" Will Streaming On Uribaba

The trailer of *Jhalagan Palagan* created by Uribaba and the talented Pradipta Bhattacharya released today. The 5-part series will bring together some of Bengal's everlasting debates in the format of the traditional ‘Kobir Lorai’ (Duel of the Verses). The popular team of Birohi reunites for a fresh new series that is yet to be witnessed by the Bengali audience

Kobigan, Tarja Gan, Half-Akhrai were some of the most loved forms of popular expression in old Kolkata.

Kobigan is still performed in rural Bengal. Shot in the heart of Tehatto, this series will mostly draw upon the form of ‘Kobir Lorai’. There will be various kinds of songs including rap, hard rock, kirtan, adhunik (modern) songs, Hindi songs etc.

Bengalis forever remain immersed in 'adda'( fun discussions) regardless of whether they are on land, water or even in space. The nature of the adda changes but the 'adda' remains constant. For instance the adda at a 5-star hotel is very different from the adda one encounters at a tea stall or over zoom. Whatever the space, there are some things about the Bengalis’ adda which remain eternal and imperishable. For instance, Bangaals and Ghotis or East Bengal and Mohun Bagan.

The series will be presented in the form of a costume drama. For instance, the episode on East Bengal-Mohun Bagan will feature participants wearing the jerseys of the clubs while the episode on Uttam-Soumitra will be acted out with participants wearing the costumes of the iconic characters played by these two legendary actors. They will debate and joust with each other through songs.

"For a while I have been thinking about creating a show based on the various arguments that Bengali people love to indulge in; like Uttam-Soumitra, East Bengal- Mohun Bagan, city or village etc. It struck me that we should do it in the format of the Palagaan that is still enacted in villages of Bengal. Actor *Ritwik Chakraborty* and I have opened a production house named 180 Degree. Based on the concept, the production team started their work, Dipanshu composed the songs and Satyaki gave his music. Arunav and Nilay directed this show and Joydeep shot it aesthetically. I felt this is the right time to experiment and bring Jhalagaan Palagaan to a web platform." said the creator of the the show Pradipta Bhattacharya.

Format of the show:

Bhumika (Introduction)- The sutradhar (narrator) will introduce the two teams.

Tarja (Heading the debate)- The two teams will start with their songs. They will first sing praises of their own side and describe their qualities.

Kheur (Ridiculing the opponents)- At this stage, the teams will fight and argue with each other.

Siddhanto (Resolution)- The results of the ‘Kobir Lorai’ thus far will be declared.
